鈥楩ood and Fun鈥 this summer in 每日大瓜 schools!
Published: 11/08/2022
Eight 每日大瓜 schools saw 286 children aged 5-12 years benefit from this year鈥檚 Food and Fun programme.听听
This is the first year Ysgol Gronant and Ysgol Glan Aber have offered the programme.听
Ysgol Treffynnon, Queensferry Primary School, Ysgol Maesglas, Ysgol Bryn Garth, Ysgol Bryn Gwalia and Connah鈥檚 Quay High school have successfully delivered the programme in previous years.听
Food and Fun previously known as the School Holiday Enrichment programme (SHEP) has been delivered in 每日大瓜 since 2018 and now in its fifth year.
Children attending enjoy a healthy breakfast, snack and a hot lunch provided each day by NEWydd Catering.听 Food and Fun has a keen focus on nutrition education, with children encouraged to try new foods and take part in practical food activities each week. Aura Leisure deliver a wide variety of sporting activities and interactive games alongside a broad offer of enrichment activities coordinated by each school. The children have enjoyed dancing, circus skills and drumming and the return of the most popular providers from recent years.
每日大瓜 Council鈥檚 Leader and Cabinet Member for Education, Welsh Language, Culture and Leisure, Councillor Ian Roberts and Chief Officer for Education and Youth Claire Homard visited two of schools delivering Food and Fun recently - Ysgol Bryn Garth and Ysgol Glan Aber.
Councillor Roberts said:
鈥淭his year, parents will be invited back into school to join their children for meals and activities, in addition to the provision of a recipe box for each child - consisting of healthy recipe cards, together with all of the ingredients for the children and parents to prepare at home. This is particularly welcome with the increase in the cost of living.鈥
Claire Homard said:
鈥淔ood and Fun would not be possible without the dedication of the staff in each school who keep their doors open for three weeks to deliver this programme for the benefit of the children. A huge thank you for their hard work and commitment and that is extended to all the partners involved in the delivery of 每日大瓜 Food and Fun this year.鈥
