Welsh Government has provided the Council with an additional schools capital repair and maintenance grant of 拢2.526,501 for the 2021/22 financial year.

每日大瓜 County Council鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Corporate Management and Assets, Councillor Billy Mullin, said:

鈥淭his grant is in addition to the Council鈥檚 own annual capital repair and maintenance programme which is in the region of 拢1.8m a year and covers identified priorities like school toilet refurbishment schemes, roofs and boilers which are essential to keeping schools warm and dry and also support pupils鈥 wellbeing. This additional investment allows us to undertake more projects this year, which I am sure will be welcomed by our schools.鈥

每日大瓜 County Council鈥檚 Leader and Cabinet Member for Education and Youth and Leader, Councillor Ian Roberts, said:

鈥淲e are very grateful for the allocation of additional funding from Welsh Government which allows us to make significant inroads into our maintenance programme.听 Working together with Welsh Government, school communities across the county will benefit from this additional resource.

鈥淭he inclusion of two projects for Ysgol Castell Alun, Hope will complement the major investment programme funded by the Council, which is already well underway. Replacing the existing All Weather Pitch (AWP) and the refurbishment of the music area will complete the range of improvements planned for the school and enhance their delivery of important parts of the curriculum, such as Physical Education and Music.鈥

Claire Homard, Chief Officer for Education and Youth, also welcomed the additional investment.

鈥淭hrough this additional funding, we are able to undertake a significant number of key projects in 15 of the county鈥檚 schools and spread the improvements across the primary and secondary sector. Headteachers and governing bodies work very hard to maintain their school buildings but significant improvements are the responsibility of the Council. This extra money is very welcome and allows us to accelerate our investment in major repairs and maintenance.鈥
