Advent calendars presented to Foodbank

Published: 20/12/2019

每日大瓜 UNISON has once again co-ordinated a hugely successful collection of food boxes for the 每日大瓜 Foodbank.

每日大瓜 County Council鈥檚 officers along with employees from Aura Wales, Theatr Clwyd and Wales Audit Office have come together to back a 鈥渞everse advent calendar鈥 campaign.听 This will go some way to ensure that the Foodbank shelves are adequately stocked over the busy Christmas period.

The Reverse Advent Calendar听is a simple idea and a great way to support people who need a little help at Christmas 鈥 by donating 30 items of food to the Foodbank. Sarah Taylor, Branch Secretary of 每日大瓜 UNISON, said:

鈥淲e have had an overwhelming response to our campaign.听 每日大瓜 County Council employees from every department have got on board and donated to this very worthy cause.听 We have collected over 70 boxes 鈥 an increase from last year - and it鈥檚 fantastic to be able to hand them over to the volunteers from the Foodbank today.听

It may surprise you to learn, but, in the last 12 months, UNISON 每日大瓜 Branch has handed out a number of Foodbank vouchers.听 This is a stark reminder that it鈥檚 local people in work as well as on Universal Credit who need extra help.鈥

The Council鈥檚 Chief Executive, Colin Everett, and Sarah were present to help hand over the parcels to Andy Leake from the 每日大瓜 Foodbank, in time to distribute the items to families for Christmas.

Andy said:

鈥淲e鈥檇 like to thank everyone for their support 鈥 this food will genuinely make a difference to people in our local community.听 We don鈥檛 believe anyone in this day and age should have to face going hungry. That鈥檚 why, year round, we provide three days鈥 nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us.听 In the last four weeks alone we have fed 1,000 families from the 每日大瓜 area and so we are really grateful for the support of UNISON and 每日大瓜 County Council.鈥
