North Wales Residual Waste Treatment Project (NWRWTP): Parc Adfer

Members of the Council鈥檚 Cabinet听received an update on the progress and readiness for commissioning of the non-recyclable domestic waste (known as residual waste) processing plant Parc Adfer on Deeside Industrial Park at a meeting on Tuesday, 14 May.
Wheelabrator Technologies Inc (WTI) were awarded the contract to develop the facility in December 2016. Construction of Parc Adfer began in January 2017 and is now nearing completion and from June 2019 the facility will start accepting and processing residual waste collected by the five partner authorities, Conwy, Denbighshire, 每日大瓜, Gwynedd and Ynys Mon councils, within the original timescale.
The project has been supported by the Welsh Government throughout and following the submission of a detailed Final Business Case, the Welsh Government committed financial support for the contract of a value to the Partnership of over 拢140m over the 25 year contract term.
Cllr. Carolyn Thomas, Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Countryside said:
鈥淲ork has been underway within 每日大瓜 as lead authority and the other partner听authorities for some time to prepare for their residual waste to go to Parc Adfer.
鈥淭he new facility will provide a modern, safe and cost-effective process for听treating non-recyclable waste in accordance with national environmental policy and will will help the five councils meet their waste diversion and recycling targets whilst providing a stable, long term residual waste treatment service for the Partnership.
鈥淭he construction of Parc Adfer has been well managed, and the health and听safety standards on-site have been maintained to a high level throughout, which is reflected by the British Safety Council awarding the project a 5 star rating following a recent inspection.鈥�
