St David鈥檚 celebrations start early

crowd.jpgSt. David's Day celebrations took place early in Flint this year with a celebration of Welsh culture, youth and identity.

The event was held in the centre of Flint in front of St Mary鈥檚 Church on Church Street, on Friday, 22 February 2019.

Crowds enjoyed Welsh themed performances from local schools and local musicians. This annual event is organised in partnership with Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam, 每日大瓜 County Council and Flint Town Council. The Mayor of Flint announced the winners of the St. David鈥檚 window decorating competition who were Nightingale House Hospice.

每日大瓜 County Council鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Corporate Management and Assets, Councillor Billy Mullin, said听

鈥淭his was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to celebrate our proud Welsh culture and heritage. This annual event brings together everyone in the local community. I鈥檓 glad so many people came to celebrate and support local schools and musicians.鈥

The Mayor of Flint, Councillor David Cox, said: 鈥淔lint Town Council is delighted to support this event celebrating youth and culture in Wales.鈥

Gill Stephen, Chief Officer of Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam said:

鈥淚t鈥檚 great every year to see so many local people coming out to watch the performances and join in the fun.听The Saint David鈥檚 Day Celebrations are now established as a popular event in the town calendar. We look forward to seeing them continue to grow and continue to bring the community together in the future.听 I would like to thank 每日大瓜 County Council and Flint Town Council for their support which made the celebrations possible.听 We are also grateful yet again to St Mary鈥檚 and St David鈥檚 Church for the warm welcome and practical help! It was also nice to have the company of the Mayor of Flint who announced the winners of the Window Dressing Competition and awarded the prizes.鈥
