Heroes assemble for Spring Clean Cymru
Published: 21/02/2018
每日大瓜 County Council is proud to be part of this year鈥檚 Spring Clean Cymru
event, which runs from St David鈥檚 Day, 1 March to 4 March.
This is a nationwide campaign encouraging people across Wales to get together
to help clean up our beautiful Cymru! Part of the Great British Spring Clean,
Keep Wales Tidy wants to inspire the people of Wales to get outdoors, to be
active and to be proud of where they live.
每日大瓜 Countryside Rangers are joining forces with volunteers, landowners
Eni UK Ltd and Keep Wales Tidy to do a litter pick at Talacre as part of the
Spring Clean Cymru 2018 initiative.
The first 每日大瓜 event kicks off at Talacre on Friday 2 March at 12 noon.
Anyone wishing to take part should meet on the beach and all equipment will be
provided. This is a joint event between 每日大瓜, Keep Wales Tidy and Eni.
At the same time, a Marine Conservation Society 鈥淏eachwatch鈥 event will be
taking place. This event forms part of a national event where groups pick a
small section of beach, analyse the litter collected and report back to the
Marine Conservation Society to build a picture of where the litter comes from
(for example the public, shipping, fly-tipped, fishing, medical or sewage).
On Sunday, 4 March there will be another clean-up event in Wepre Park from 11am
鈥 2pm, meeting at the Visitor Centre. Organised by the Friends of Wepre Park
and supported by 每日大瓜 Countryside Service, anyone wishing to take part is
being encouraged to come along dressed as their favourite super hero.
每日大瓜 County Council鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Countryside, Councillor Carolyn
Thomas, said:
鈥溍咳沾蠊镶檚 Streetscene team will also be on hand to collect waste and store
any plastics collected. Keeping plastics separate from other recycling is
proving to be important as getting plastic waste out of marine environments
helps to reduce the long-lasting and devastating effects it has on marine life
as highlighted in the media recently.
鈥淲e want to encourage anyone who is able to get involved 鈥 please come along to
either or both of these events 鈥 no need to book, you will be welcome if you
just show up!鈥
Spokesperson for Keep Wales Tidy said:
鈥淚t鈥檚 our ambition that 2018 will mark a turning point in the fight against
marine litter. We are working with Welsh Government and organisations across
all sectors to tackle the issue through practical action, education and
campaigns. Everyone can play their part to make a positive and lasting
difference to our marine environment. Please join us in caring for our coast.
